Spoilers. According to a report in COMIC BOOK RESOURCES, DC will kill off Bruce Wayne and one of the "Robins" will replace him as Batman come summer 2008. Also, BATMAN will revert back to #1, issue numbering-wise.
THE DEATH OF A BAT
In June/July, DC are killing off Batman. Or rather, Bruce Wayne. Robin will inherit the Batman cowl. One of the Robins anyway. Tim Drake. Jason Todd. Or possibly Red Hood. Hey, maybe Jean-Paul Valley, it has been ten years since Azrael.
Either way, the book will relaunch with a nice shiny #1.
Yes, didn't Captain America miss a trick there? I'm sure Marvel will do the same come 2009.
And what of Batwoman? Well, I'm told the launch of the Rucka/Williams series has been pushed back yet again because of the movie, and fears of "unacceptable media coverage." I'm told four issues are fully completed.
Apparently it's okay for Batman to be dead, and a new character take his place when there's a movie out. But not for Batwoman to be a lesbian. At least wait till it's gone to DVD for that brunette bombshell.
I'm reminded of the Warner Bros executive instruction to Grant Morrison and Dave McKean over "Arkham Asylum," that the Joker not be seen dressing up as Madonna in case the cinema audience believed that meant Jack Nicholson was a transvestite.
That last paragraph/sentence is hilarious. The rest is a bad joke.

Think about it: why would they let both Superman and Bats have children at the same time? Because that universe is about to end and, in the meantime, DC wants to look risky by allowing stuff they had forbidden in the past. Betcha Barry Allen comes back right before Final Crisis. So The Bat-Man might as well die and be replaced by Alfred, cause that continuity ain't sticking around for too long.

Yeah, get rid of all that heavy continuity says I. That's what I like about Ultimate Marvel, the writers can pretty much do whatever they want.
So here's hoping that Superman, Batman, Flash and all the others gets rebooted to their beginnings.
There are only a few characters I like that I wouldn't mind sticking around, Tim Drake, Kyle Rayner, Supergirl, Wally West (though I'd rather have Bart Allen back again, getting rid of him was a stupid mistake) and Wondergirl. All the rest can suck cock by choice!

Some characters were rebooted and others stayed the same, so the new continuity was almost as convulted as the last one (even more if you consider that readers had to figure out of which previous stories counted and which didn't). Nope, if they flush the toilet again they should make sure all the shit goes down. Which means no JSA or even Satellite JLA.

Yeah. But as in post Crisis Superman AND the Ultimate universe, part of the catch o these 'do whatever you want continuities' is that they can't help playing on nostalgia by reintroducing the same old ideas and just making them "edgier". Which most of the time end up being worse than the originals.
And that's part of the marketing. Playing on the nostalgia that they're supposedly free from. They can never resist going back to th same old thing. Remember Post-Crisis Titano?? Usually they try to attach some "realistic" scientific bullshit explanation for something that was deemed "silly" but now is supposed to be "not silly" because they use pseudoscience to explain it.

I think it's the same thing. The Bat-Man dies, oh no, Final Crisis happens, he comes back as a New New God and saves the day. The End, universe over. Not a bad ending, I think. I don't much care for either ending, especially as it involves Batman, who is supposed to have a bit more sheen or realism than other characters. In the quashed ending, however, at least the concept was that the "Legends" of the DCU (the big three) were being elevated to godhood. It had more of a epic feeling to the idea. Just having Batman be elevated seems like they picked the wrong character and turned a potentially epic ending into a potentially goofy one.
