Yeah. But as in post Crisis Superman AND the Ultimate universe, part of the catch o these 'do whatever you want continuities' is that they can't help playing on nostalgia by reintroducing the same old ideas and just making them "edgier". Which most of the time end up being worse than the originals.
And that's part of the marketing. Playing on the nostalgia that they're supposedly free from. They can never resist going back to th same old thing. Remember Post-Crisis Titano?? Usually they try to attach some "realistic" scientific bullshit explanation for something that was deemed "silly" but now is supposed to be "not silly" because they use pseudoscience to explain it.
