I think it's the same thing. The Bat-Man dies, oh no, Final Crisis happens, he comes back as a New New God and saves the day. The End, universe over. Not a bad ending, I think.
I don't much care for either ending, especially as it involves Batman, who is supposed to have a bit more sheen or realism than other characters.
In the quashed ending, however, at least the concept was that the "Legends" of the DCU (the big three) were being elevated to godhood. It had more of a epic feeling to the idea. Just having Batman be elevated seems like they picked the wrong character and turned a potentially epic ending into a potentially goofy one.
