Keep in mind that large part of the reason gas guzzling SUV's made such inroads in the U.S. auto market in the 1st place is because families bought them up (sometimes erroneously) believing that they're safer vehicles.


I don't know anyone who bought an SUV thinking it was safer. I know people who bought SUV's after it became well known that they were more prone to tipping over and less safe simply because they were larger vehicles that had more room and sit up farther off the ground.
