I just think, as with the PS3, it was a case of there being more Joe Sixpacks armed with nothing more than brand identification making their choice for them.
It sure didn't help that Toshiba (and Microsoft) just sat back and assumed that having the better product was enough to compete with Sony's marketing juggernaut.
