why the need to assimilate? If they don't then it limits the jobs they can get and the interactions they can have. Ultimately it only hurts them. If they did make Spanish the second official language like you fear then they would have to make English the official one. Right now we have no official language, so that would cement English. And given the time frame and your bitching issues I have to wonder if maybe the love of your life wanted to pursue her own interests instead of become your housewife.
