I'd actually quit for most of last year, until November. I was indulging in a few smokes during vacation with friends, which was no big deal, but then got tangled in some drama, which made it hard to put them back down when I got home.
As for my ideal choice of smokes, I've always loved Canadian brands, especially the full-flavor Export A's, which used to be cheap and easy to find where I live in Washington State. They're pretty similar to American Spirits in flavor, except they have a nicer taste and smell. These days, they're harder to find (and when you do, in most places around here, they've been sitting forever and are stale) and waaaayyy more expensive. I do still grab a couple packs every now and then, when I can.
But, my usual smoke of late has been Marlboro 27's, which are the ones with the copper logo. They're a whole different flavor and feel from the Reds.

Anyone here smoke? We got drinking threads... I like American Spirit, gots no additives. Went with the blue box. I've only tried Marlboro Reds before, thems were not so yum. I smoked Bali Shag (rolling tobacco) for 3 years. That stuff is better than regulat cigarettes because it's just tobacco with none of the extra chemicals. I did a cold turkey quit in December and it worked. I was getting really bad there, smoking up to 30 a day. Now I only smoke socially, which means when I get to work 4 out of 5 days my friend is there and he gives me about 3 as we sit around bullshitting for an hour. But that's it. Only those 3-4 and only on those days. I would actually recomend Bali Shag if you're going to smoke, like I said none of the extra chemicals and you don't get the severe nicotine cravings. Also it's kind of neat to roll your own cigarette.

Uschi -- I tried one of the American Spirit Perique yesterday (a friend and I were sharing tobacco) and I gotta say, they're pretty damn nice. I'm into the handrolled stuff myself; got an ounce each of Turkish Export and Amsterdam blend (no pot jokes, please). The Turkish is definitely the way to go. When I'm going for something quick and dirty it's generally Drum (cheap and tastes reasonably good) or Farmer's Gold.

Quit cold turkey at 8:00 am February 29. I used to smoke Newport Kings. I have been smoking for about 20 years. Before I had kids I probably smoked about a pack a day. After the kids came, I couldn't smoke in the house anymore so I'd go thru a pack evry 2 1/2 to 3 days.
Glad I quit but, I definitely gained weight...I didn't really expect to. I quit before for about a almost 2 years and didn't gain much.
Physiologically, I no longer have cravings but, psychologically I'll probably have the urge to smoke at least once a day. Oddly enough, it doesn't bother me to see people smoking in real life but, I tend to get cravings when I see people smoke on TV.
