apparently they've added The Bat-Man to the final battle at the end. I have no issue with that.

Ok, that looks really good. I'm hoping they've learned from their mistake with Superman/Doomsday.

Anne Thompson's Thompson on Hollywood blog at Variety puts the spotlight on Christopher Nolan and 'The Dark Knight' but also has some interesting tidbits about other DC Comics films.

Thompson hears that the prospect of director Bryan Singer returning to film another 'Superman' movie is "highly unlikely", with Singer transitioning from his current film 'Valkyrie' to 'The Mayor of Castro Street'.

Furthermore, in spite of protests to the contrary by director George Miller, Thompson says that 'Justice League' has, in fact, been waylaid by the WGA writers strike. Filming will not commence until after the strike has been resolved.

God, if you can hear me, please let this "Justice League" movie be completely destroyed by the Writer's Strike. I wish it not be made....and if by the form it has been hinted at, then not at all. Ever. Please. If there can be no good JLA movie, then none at all will do. Please ignore any nerd requests to the contrary and just give me this one.

Thanks in advance.

Heh. The fangirl in me would love to see this, but the realist in me figures if they do go ahead with it there is the high possibility that it will suck on multiple levels.

Wait a minute. If the studio executives know that the JL cast is "mediocre" (which is putting it kindly, in my opinion), why did they sign off on that cast? I find it extremely difficult, if not impossible, to believe that the studio executives wouldn't have final veto on the cast of a big budget movie starring some of their top franchise characters.

Both the JLA movie and a Superman returns sequel aren't going to happen. I'm calling it (again). If...big if, a new Superman movie is done it'll be a reboot. JLA needs to be animated.

I'm with G-Man (*shudder*)...if the shit is mediocre...and everyone and their fucking mother KNOWS it's mediocre...then DON'T MAKE IT!

And Jeremy, what are you talking about them not making the Superman sequel? Why do you think they would reboot it when it's only had a single movie? I'm not debating you here, I'm honestly asking this question out of curiosity as to what you know, or why you think this...

No script has been announced and as far as I know, Singer hasn't lifted a finger to get another Superman movie going. I think it'll be rebooted because of the super-kid. Do you want to see Superdad: Man of Steel? Plus, Routh can't act and Bosworth sucked.

Hollywood is willing to make a movie with a mediocre cast just because it's gonna make them a lot of money?! Wha?! How long has this been going on?!

Singer has been pretty enthusiastic about making a new Superman movie ("I wanna go Wrath of Kahn on it"). I think it was the dude who played Perry who said that Singer wants to get it done whatever it takes.

In this case, as with most decisions in Hollywood, I took "mediocre" to mean "not likely to improve the box office."

Mxy is the only one who remembered that we're talking about Hollywood here where the making of mediocre crap is not only routine, but also encouraged.

someone WAS listening!

 Quote:
Variety reported Wednesday evening news that the Warner Bros. production of “Justice League,” based on the hit DC Comics super-team, has been officially shelved.
“Warner Bros. has let the options lapse on the young cast that director George Miller chose to play DC superhero staples. The move made it clear that the project is no longer eyeing a spring start,” Variety writes. Although cast options have been allowed to lapse, would-be cast members have been told the studio is determined to make the film eventually, and with the same actors.

The shutdown follows numerous obstacles that have plagued the George Miller-helmed production, including uncertainty about tax breaks for filming in Australia and questions about the script. Variety reports that “Justice League” producers “like” the script written by Kieran and Michele Mulroney, but that additional work is needed -- work the WGA strike makes impossible.

No doubt compounding matters is the impending end-date of the Screen Actors Guild contract, June 1, 2008. Warner. Bros. would have to begin shooting “Justice League” immediately in order to complete work with the cast before they’d walk off set to strike in solidarity with WGA, which SAG members may choose to do. That producers have let the “Justice League” cast’s options lapse is an indicator that the WGA strike is likely to continue well into 2008.

With "Justice League" indefinitely delayed, Warner Bros. has what Variety characterizes as a "superhero gap" in its schedule for 2009, as the status of the next Superman film is also uncertain.

Here's my review from The Insurgency Boards:

 Quote:
It was....

SPECTACULAR!!!!!!!

Wow!

The story was heavily edited of course which was expected already due to the time constraints. But somehow they managed to keep the essence and more importantly, the heart of the story intact.

I'd heavily recommend this to anyone and everyone. It certainly makes up for the Superman: Doomsday POS. And then some.

The only real liberty they took story-wise is a minor one with the mission to Mars. In it (SPOILERS)

*
*
*
*

*
*
*
*
*
*

Hal Jordan goes along on the mission with Rick Flagg and is rescued by Superman, ALIVE, rather than in a flaming carcass like Flagg in the comic book. It sort of made sense from a simply dramatic POV but it totally negates the awe of Jordan becoming Green Lantern and finally seeing the stars.

I also missed seeing Flash say "why" to Faraday as they try to decoy and catch him. That was a great dramatic moment in the comic that would have easily fit in seeing as how they animated that scene. Why they omitted the question is beyond me..

I'd also have liked to have seen Edward R. Murrow's scene as it packed a resonant punch in the comic as well. And most mystifying of all, I wonder why the entire death of King Faraday was rewritten to have him die like Johnny Cloud rather than the way he did saving Jonn. It seemed a poor way to try to merge two different stories.

I'd have liked to have seen the Losers and the John Henry story animated but at least they were included in microfilm slides. And the ending could have been a bit more visually dramatic IMO instead of just being a series of still photos of the comic book. The photos wouldn't have bothered me too much either if they at least went with Kennedy's speech like they did in the book.

*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*
*(end SPOILERS)

And finally they do make reference to politics in he film but try to sugar coat it as the fear and paranoia not being limited to political parties. Which judging from now and the 50's paranoia that New Frontier comments on and mirrors for us, is frankly bullshit.. The Republicans were behind the McCarthy era and the Republicans are behind the current era of fear and distrust. If you're commenting on one particular era to comment on the current one, it's sort of bullshit to try to make it a universal failing rather than showing 2 instances of the same party riding out and exploiting fear and suspicion. IMO. Especially when in the story, the light at the end of the tunnel is clearly the Kennedy administration.

Total geek out moments are the times like when you see Green Lantern's origin with Abin Sur, the 1st time The Guardians of The Universe talk to Hal, a still cameo and spoken reference to the JSA, seeing Robin and a retro Batcave, and just the million or so little details sprinkled about the cartoon that any DCU fanboy will love..

It's quite obvious that the producers put a lot of thought and effort in preserving the source material this time around. So while it skimps on a lot of the meat of the original story, it stays true to it nonetheless.

Overall, it deserves a strong A, 5 ***** or whatever you use to rate top notch stuff.
