Actually, iPod music (eg, iTunes) is often coded in a different format than another mp3 player. I was not saying MP3 players are gay, just the kind someone like you would buy! So you don't think that videocassette recorders were gay, just the ones that didn't use the betamax format? Got it.

And just for the record, while using iTunes does indeed convert the format (too AAC seeing as you obviously cant even be bothered looking up what the format is called), you can still play MP3s on one if you have any common sense.
And the fact still stands that iPod is a brand not a format.
Do some research before you get into a conversation about something you do not understand!
Just to make things easier for you:
Betmax = a format
VHS = a format
Sony = a brand
JVC = a brand
MP3 = a format
AAC = a format
iPod = a brand
Archos = a brand

My dislike of iPod (and Apple in general) is more akin to me liking video recorders, but not ones made by JVC or Sanyo or Sony, rather than not liking video recorders that play a different format.

And a betamax played videos. The difference was that one brand played them of a different type of machine. Just as iPods play music on a different type of machine than, say, a Zune.

The problem with this argument is that the IT directors of many, if not most, major (ie, Ivy League, or nearly Ivy Leage) universities in US are working on projects (or have established projects) to use MP3 players for distance learning. The format they're most often using for their podcasts? iTunes. What type of player plays iTunes? iPods. Now, I know that you're going to cite some obscure bit of technical data to try and explain why all these Ivy league types are stupid, but it still boils down to you trying to personalize a particular purchase beyond all reason and into a level of emotion that just really isn't worth it. The market has spoken and the iPod is king. You're just going to have to accept it.

G-Man, I ain't trying to contribute to this little pissing match, but iTunes isn't the format, it's merely a media player, akin to WMP. It allows users to manage the contents of their iPods and various other devices as well as connect to the iTunes Store. Windows Media offers something similar, I think they call it the Marketplace.
