THe articles I've read said Saddam Hussein killed between 800,000 and 1 million of his people. They're still digging up the bodies in mass graves, and genetically testing the remains to identify them, against a database of dna samples from those who have reported relatives absucted by Saddam Hussein's government.

Similar exhumation and testing is still going on in Bosnia as well.
