ign.com

  • With the world in a state of crisis, Old Snake must infiltrate a variety of locations across the globe, including the Middle East and South America. MGS 4 features a variety of returning characters from previous Metal Gear Solid games, including Meryl Silverburgh and Raiden, as well as the return of iconic Metal Gear Solid 2 boss character - Vamp.

first alluded to here is the on-going net debate over whether or not MGS4 will appear on xbox 360 in addition to the ps3. lots of commentary has gone back and forth within that thread with poster opinions and various articles and "official" commentary.

here's s'more of that!

MGS4 on Xbox 360 'a few months' after PS3, says OXM Rumor Mole
by Christopher Grant

  • A reliable tipster has whispered in X3F's ear that the Rumor Mole section in the latest issue of OXM claims a "bankable source" confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 4 would be coming to the Xbox 360 "a few months" after the PS3 version. Of course, there have been dozens of rumors insisting this will be the case, but the "Official Xbox Magazine" carries some weight.

Last week, Konami executive Kazumi Kitaue said, "Since Metal Gear Solid was born for the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps," igniting renewed speculation that the title would, in fact, be coming to Microsoft's console. Obviously, an announcement wasn't made at E3 last week ... perhaps TGS07?

If this does happen. I will eat a McDonald's cheeseburger, videotape it, and then post it on YouTube.

The first demonstration of the game as played by Kojima is up:

Looking aweshome.

However, I was kind fo hoping he'd ditch the bottomless pit inventory this time around, but...Oh well.

Metal Gear going Online
Kojima and Co. announce online incarnation of the Metal Gear series for the PS3, a hide-and-seek-style game for up to 16 players at a time.
By Emma Boyes, GameSpot UK
Posted Jul 24, 2007 7:20 am PT

  • The first details and gameplay footage of Metal Gear Online for the PlayStation 3 were pulled out of the hat today at Konami's Metal Gear 20th Anniversary event in Japan.

The online title, which will shortly be going into closed beta with a select team of 3,000 Japanese beta testers, was one of a series of announcements that the company chose to make at its own dedicated event--as opposed to at this year's E3, where Konami caused a stir with its 15-minute press conference.

The official recruiting period for the open beta will be from July 24 to August 6, and the actual beta testing will run from August 7 to September 3. So far the open beta is also Japanese-only, although Kojima Productions assistant producer Ryan Payton stated that he would like to see the beta go international--but as yet has no official announcements.

The game will be a kind of hide-and-seek for up to 16 players at a time, and is called a "strategic multiplayer experience." It will feature the SOP system, which allows players to keep track of their teammates via nanomachines injected into their bloodstream. The nanomachines allow them to see where the rest of their team are, their condition, which way they are aiming, and their range of sight. Enemy soldiers can also be injected with nanomachines, which will enable the other team to then keep track of their movements.

Metal Gear Online will also feature playable characters and environments from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, and is slated as a PS3 exclusive.

Other Metal Gear goodies announced were Metal Gear Portable Ops Plus, Metal Gear Solid Mobile, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Bande Desinee, the latter being a graphic novel of the series viewable on the PlayStation Portable. For more on the event and the new titles, check back soon for GameSpot's full coverage.

Rumorang: MGS4 on Xbox 360, 12-14 months late
by Christopher Grant

  • We know we don't need to tell you guys this, but Metal Gear Solid 4 coming to the Xbox 360 is still a rumor despite gaming site Xbox Family saying, rather unequivocally, "Metal Gear Solid 4 is coming to the Xbox 360. This is not a rumor." Well, duh ... it's a rumorang.

With that caveat out of the way (and stowed safely in a locker somewhere), we'll proceed to relay the rumorang your way: An unnamed Konami rep apparently dropped some knowledge on Xbox Family, whispering that MGS4 would sneak onto the Xbox 360 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version is released (whenever that is). The site also published a lengthy email from Microsoft's John Porcaro basically saying "no comment" which they also suspect may be further proof of the rumor. (Why did he write so much? He's very polite, you know.)

With Konami execs straight up saying that Metal Gear Solid 4 may go to other consoles, and MGS4 producer Ryan Payton saying the game needs to sell a million copies on day one to make the pricey production profitable, it's not like Konami's showing their best poker face either. But that doesn't mean it's not still a rumor which, of course, we don't need to tell you guys.

Metal Gear Solid 4 dated for 'late Q2 2008' [update]
by Justin McElroy

  • As you've probably figured out by now, practically any release date you hear for Metal Gear Solid 4 should probably be punctuated by the word "Probably." We'll have to actually open our retail copy up and see that there's not just a note with the words "Coming Soon" written on it before we'll believe that it's actually out.

That said, there's apparently a new "official" date coming out of retailers conference Destination PlayStation: June 12, 2008. Before you get out a calendar: Yes, that date falls on a Thursday. No, we don't get it either. We've emailed Konami for official word, but for now we feel pretty comfortable in reporting that June 12 is the new future former release date of Kojima's baby.

Additionally, there's word that a new PS3 bundle featuring an 80GB system (apparently still in production), MGS4, and the DualShock 3 controller is in the works. We've reached out to Konami for confirmation.

Update: An SCEA press release distances itself from the reported June 12 date, stating only a vague "late Q2 2008" release for MGS4. The statement does confirm the aforementioned bundle (more here), along with news of a Metal Gear Online beta test (details here).

Pariah for Arcade Room Mod (not really)!

http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/ps3/file/926596/53111

II. General Tips (GENTIP)
----------------------------------------------------
1. Use your Octocamo - Just because it's a boss fight doesn't mean
stealth isn't important. Bosses that become confused and unaware to
your presence will allow an easy shot.

2. Pay close attention to your psyche. - The psyche gauge is just
below Snake's health bar. The higher the bar is, the greater Snake's
psyche is, and thus, better performance. High amounts of stress in
combat will cause his psyche to deplete gradually; this occurs
frequently during bosses and will drop your aim considerably. Eating
noodles, drinking Regain, smoking a cigarette, resting, reading a
magazine and the syringe you receive later on all help keep the
psyche meter high.

3. Take cover often and rest. - If you take a lot of damage and don't
have much recovery items left, find safe cover and have Snake rest
idly as long as possible. Snake's health will gradually restore
itself. The higher Snake's psyche gauge, the quicker it will restore.
The higher Snake's psyche gauge, the quicker it will restore.

----------------------------------------------------
III. Bosses
----------------------------------------------------

====================================================
1. Laughing Octopus (LOCT)
====================================================
Difficulty: Medium

The first boss you fight, it seems like quite awhile before you even
fought one. Unlike most first bosses in the series, Laughing Octopus
is not a push around and can deal some serious damage if you don't
think on your feet.

Octopus will rely on the same technology - Octocamo as well as
facecamo which allows her to take on the face or even shape of
another object or person. Because of this, it's important to keep
note of your surroundings and any changes.

If you are going for a tranq kill, prepare for a long fight. Stun
Grenades work well here, as she will usually deflect your MK bullets
with her tentacles. Fighting her upfront as she is approaching you is
usually useless in this sense.

She will primarily attempt to fool you by using disguises and
blending into the environment. Using your night vision on the Solid
Eye is a good tactic for discovering where she is. Pay close
attention to the radar as well, she will frequently yell and give out
her location. She will not move from her position until you shoot her
out of it. Make good use of this advantage and rest to recover health
when needed.

Occasionally, Octopus will send out these small floating red orbs
that will attach themselves to you if they touch you. You can either
shoot them in the air or roll if they attach to you. They will
explode after some time if you run away from them as well.

Be careful to maintain distance from her as well, her tentacle attack
has range and can deal a large bit of damage. Be especially careful
of her rolling attack which can catch you extremely quickly and deals
massive damage if you are hit. Find a crate to go up on if you see
this coming.

Normal weaponry will take awhile to bring her down with, any heavy
assault weapons will bring her down faster. If you are just going for
the facecamo, you can lethal kill the beast.

After you kill Laughing Octopus, she will shed her protective armor
and enter human form: Laughing Beauty. I don't really consider this
its own boss fight so I am including it here. All you must do is keep
shooting her as she slowly walks to you. There is no reason to get
hit at all, and if you do she will try to choke you, in which you can
easily shake her off. I recommend stamina killing her for her
facecamo. You will eventually land shots and bring her down
regardless of her dodging.

Congratulations! You have beaten the first boss.

LOL! Yeah, I know how to beat her. I was doing non-lethal though. I had finally figured out it didn't have to be non-lethal throughout the entire battle, just the end.

With a sack of oranges.

And, to be fair, one of my favorite friends there is blind and I take every opportunity available to make fun of that and we're still friends. That guy never fit there. He never got the spirit of the RKMBs. We're gonna keep an eye on the obits, see if he finally left or if he really did have a heart attack.

Meanwhile, i defeated Laughing Octopus using a shotgun with v-ring ammo (air rounds). Much easier that way after a couple of shots with an RPG.

His problems with it are well taken (especially about the script needing an editor and the terminology being esoteric), but he spent so much time complaining about the cut-scenes, he didn't bother talking about the gameplay--It does exist for fuck's sake and it lasts an average of 20 hours.

His last Wii review was better.
