I'm sure Bale had a lunch meeting with Cliff Huxtable at the Four Seasons in 20 minutes or had to return some videotapes.
You like Huey Lewis and the News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercial and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far much more bitter, cynical sense of humour.

I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Huey Lewis went to Cornell University, a number of years ahead of me. During the 1980s, after "Fore" hit it big, he used to sometimes come back to Ithaca and play in the local bars as a surprise, sort of the way Springsteen's done with the bars in Asbury Park.
Ithaca is also home to the oldest active comic book club in the US.
One of the comic books discussed at their meetings is Batman, which was recently made into a hit movie starring...Christian Bale.

I'm going out to dinner tonight with 2 high school friends who both went there G.
The one graduated from ther vet school there and interned at the big animal hospital/shelter in the area you may know him.

For a long time, Marinaro could not go back to Cornell for team reunions because there was a warrant for his arrest in Ithaca due to unpaid parking tickets. He insisted they weren't his and wouldn't pay them. Finally, a local alum paid them, when Ed was scheduled to come back for some big event and the local paper reported the warrant was still in effect. When he finally did come back, he jokingly told the newspaper that it was his mom's car and he thought she'd paid them. You know who else went to Cornell? Keith Olbermann. I'm surprised whomod doesn't make a pilgrimage there annually.

Who wrote that issue, and when was it published? (Can't - or shouldn't - have been made before the 70's, and yet, the art look very 1960's to me.)
