"Ruined" Batman stories are a dime a dozen at this point. Unless you are going to do something completely unexpected (and I'm not actually advocating this) like killing Dick, Jason, Tim AND Alfred it's all old hat.
And, in fact, after Miller's stuff, even that's kind of old hat.
The simple fact of the matter is that, until shit like this came along, there was nothing about Batman that really needed "fixing" or "rebooting." All you had to do was stick with the template laid down by guys like O'Neill/Adams, Englehart/Rogers, Dini/Timm and a few others and then just tell good Batman stories.
