the new star wars films could have if they didn't concentrate so much on being bad.

this is the first film that actually has the real legs to do so. it has all the hype and franchise and star power support, plus the odd and rare little facet of being a well made movie. you can also throw in "news" as a factor, with ledger's death (spoilers!) bale's mommy beating and the self-providing story of this being "the" movie.

titanic had a run where it kept having 20 million weekends long after its debut hype. 6th sense and that fat pjp wedding movie did, as well. those are the flukes that get you into huge numbers. most of the notion is built upon repeat visits; people seeing the movie 2, 3, 4 times. so far, this seems like it can be that kinda movie, as a lot of the reports indicate people leaving thrilled and promising a return.

still, there's a loooong gap between 325 mil and star wars' second place 460, then another lo(ooo)ng game between that and 600.
