Funny you'd say that. I read an essay the week before on John W. Campbell Jr, SF-author and editor of Astounding Science Fiction/Analog, who believed in Dianetics (but not in Scientology), Psionics, Dowsing, etc. He thought you could live forever, or for a very long time, if you willed it enough. Despite that, he dies in his early 70's, after suffering of goat and emphysema.
