Technically, it was sang by one of the stars. Waylon Jennings was the narrator for the show, and even appeared as himself a time or two.

Considering that the narrator was in every episode, yes, I'd say he was one of the stars.

Vic Tayback was a real role model for you, wasn't he?
I loved that guy. Great actor. Is he still alive/

no.

But, yeah, he was always good. Other than "Alice," I remember him best from "A Piece of the Action."

I don't plan to read all these, but did someone get The Fresh Prince of Bellair? And Moesha.

Another "obvious" one I'm embarrased not to have thought of sooner:
Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor singing the theme to "Green Acres."

So the house they lived in was a star of the show was it?

There was also, and I'm embarrassed to know this, the theme for "The Heights" back in the early 90's."How do You Talk to an Angel" was still on the charts long after the show itself got canceled.

Yep.

And, speaking of "Trek," I seem to recall reading that TOS theme was originally written with lyrics but then they decided that the instrumental, with the famous spoken word intro "Space. The Final Frontier..." was a better way to go.

actually Roddenberry wrote lyrics to the theme so that he could get half the royalties on the song. He never planned to use the lyrics, he just wanted them attached to the song.

No, the house was part of the scenery. But the narrator was an active part of the story. I'd also consider the General Lee a star of the show.

In addition, the credits for the show listed Waylon Jennings as a cast member.
