When I was a little kid, maybe 2 years old, I had a habit of putting things I loved into the trash can. I saw people put stuff in there all the time, and I guess I decided it was a great storage bin. When my mom caught me, it explained why everyone's shoes were missing. Anyway, my niece seems to have inherited this proclivity.
