Occupy movement makes camp in Ithaca

• Ithaca -- Six tents lined up along the bushes on the south edge of DeWitt Park in Ithaca on Tuesday comprise the start of Ithaca's very own Occupy movement encampment, following the template of the larger protest that began in New York City's Financial District in September....
  
  The group also announced they were renaming the park Shawn Greenwood Park. Greenwood was shot and killed by an Ithaca police officer in February 2010 when he tried to evade arrest on drug charges. A special investigator found Greenwood tried to drive a vehicle over an officer during the attempted arrest and was shot by another officer trying to stop him.
  
  Greenwood had served two prison terms on convictions for assault, criminal weapons possession, and drug offenses. He had told a judge he had found few other options in Ithaca.

More on Greenwood here. Basically, he was a drug dealer who got shot while trying to kill a couple of cops.

Naming your camp after a drug dealing wannabe cop killer... yeah, that doesn't discredit your movement at all.

And people wonder why the police want to wear a helmet to this party.

What the fuck is wrong that human beings refuse to learn from the past.

Protests peaceful or otherwise have been going on forever, and highly publicized since the industrial revolution.

However idiots cannot keep the group mentality from taking over and destroying themselves.

These assholes want to get arrested and beaten by the police. They must feel it validates their cause.

They simply cannot help themselves.

The police are not the enemy. Yet you risk their lives to get yourself arrested.

If you do that you are abusing the police. Trying to use them to spread your message. Then they claim that it is the other way around and that it is the police inciting the violence.

Occupy Wall Street protester brings gun to court date:

• This Occupy Wall Street protester is definitely not among the 1% — of brightest Americans.
  
  John Scott DeKuyper arrived for a Wednesday court hearing at the wrong building while carrying a Colt .45 pistol in his leather backpack, police and court officials said.
  
  DeKuyper, 53, was also toting cartridges for the unloaded handgun in his bag when he was handcuffed at the weapon screening area inside 100 Centre St. around 11:30 a.m.
