So it hasn’t happened yet but 4 days away and the House hasn’t passed anything yet. McCarthy can’t even get something together with his own party! I feel the sad truth is the extreme right is just righty fine with the country taking another hit.

Don't pay our elected officials while our government is shut down . This will get solved fast.

I think that’s a good idea but would it really solve much? Most of them are already wealthy aren’t they with many looking at bigger money with lobbyists after they’re out of office. I’m sure a bill like that would have overwhelming public support though.

I hink it would make a difference to political leaders of both parties, regardless of the fact that they are wealthy already.

What is infuriating is that federal employees don't lose a dime during a shutdown. They are not paid during the shutdown, and do not come to work, essentially a vacation.
But then when the shutdown ends, they are given back pay for all the days of the shutdown, as if they came to work. Whether in FBI, DOJ, State department, Social Security administration, or salaries of members of the House, Senate, or the White House.
They get back pay for days they didn't even work !

That's a nice rigged little system.

Isn’t that accurate though? The GOP couldn’t get a CR passed by itself. Fortunately McCarthy was willing to get it passed with bipartisan approval. I also don’t think government workers should be punished with loss wages because of stupid political games by a minority. Personally I think we would be better off tying Social Security payments not going out during government shutdowns. That would make shutdowns less attractive tool to use I would think.

So McCarthy gets the boot as a result. I certainly wasn’t a fan and would normally rejoice in this but I’m afraid democrats joining up with even worse republicans is going to be a bad deal going forward. I’m not good at strategy but not seeing the next gop house leader being better and there are worse.

Because the GOP is made up of independent thinkers who don't just mindlessly do what their leaders tell hem to do (as happens on the Democrat side of the House and Senate), yes, it is more difficult to get all Republicans, even a narrow majority, to give their consent to questionable legislation. Or in fact, BAD legislation.

And in 30 years of shut-downs (see my MRC.org link above) the Democrat-Bolshevik media ALWAYS sides with the Democrats, and ALWAYS blames the Republicans, for any shutdown, EVER.

Gee, and here I thought that the U.S. Constitution set up checks and balances, so that the House (Republican) majority holds the purse-strings of spending, with the constitutional authority to oppose ruinous spending , and do exactly what they threatened to do. And when an untrustworthy RINO Rep. Andrew McCarthy, who never had Republican confidence, and never should have been speaker in the first place, predictably gave in to every trillion-dollar concession the Democrats wanted for 9 months, the Republican caucus had the contractual ability and every right to challenge his speakership, and appoint another Republican speaker, who actually fights for the Republican voters who ELECTED that Republican majority.
The U.S. passed the $ 33 trillion mark in debt 2 weeks ago, and somehow just 2 weeks later, we're at $ 33.46 trillion !
And for WHAT ?!?
Those trillions are just wasted by a Democrat leadership that won't even use a piddly $ 5 billion to secure our southern border.
I think the very purpose of all this spending by Democrat-Bolsheviks (and Republican RINOS who do nothing to stop it) is :

1) to enrich themselves on corporate kickbacks who they've passed these spending trillions to benefit,
2) as part of their globalist/Marxist revolution, to sell out our sovereignty to our enemies, and make us dependent on the very people who want to destroy us.
and
3) in the tradition of Clinton-era "Filegate" and other abuses of the FBI, IRS and CIA, some Republicans may be surveilled and blackmailed into not opposing Democrat-Bolshevik auhortiarian-globalist plans.

The main purpose of all this debt is to bankrupt the U.S. and make it a dependency, so it cannot independently resist globalist plans.
But the Democrat party also ideologically hates our Constitutional free-market republic and wants to see us displaced as a world power and violently humbled, because the Democrat-Bolsheviks believe the U.S. is an inherently unjust evil racist place, and they agree with all our enemies --Leftists, Russians, Chinese, Iranians, islamic radicals-- that the U.S. should be destroyed.
And that's why the DEMOCRAT PARTY needs to be destroyed. They are the poisonous enemy destroying us from within.

Their own self-incriminating quoted words, for over 50 years, prove everything I say is true.

And they don't even try to hide their true colors anymore.
From the Clintons to the Obamas to the Bidens, to A-O-C and the squad, Elizabeth Warren, Mad Maxine Waters, Pelosi, Schumer, Cory Booker, Cori Bush, on down, there's not a speck of sanity in the whole Democrat-Bolshevik party. Not one Democrat leader says "Woooooah, this is just too crazy, this is where I get off!!
No, they are all on board the crazy train.

Woke indoctrination in the military? PERFECTLY FINE !

Transgender surgery (mutilation) of males and females under 18? GREAT IDEA ! HOW DARE ANYONE OPPOSE IT ! (Never mind that transgenders who get the surgery often regret it, and have a 40% higher suicide rate than those who are denied it.)
Open borders? You're a RACIST if you support common-sense national security policy, knowing who comes into our country, over 100,000 opiate deaths a year, human trafficking, terrorism and other criminals who prey on Americans, completely untraceable under Biden's insane policy.
A surge of new wars and aggression in Ukraine, Israel, Taiwan, Korea and elsewhere, that never would have occurred under Trump's 4 years? Yeah, there must be SOME way we can convolute the narrative and blame it on Trump...

With McCarthy out of the way, Republicans will select a truly conservative speaker whose policy decisions for the first time in 9 months will make sense to Republican legislators and to Republican Conservative voters who have felt betrayed at every turn by McCarhy in that time.
And Democrats will regret doing the Republicans a favor and allowing them to eject a RINO who was damaging the Republicans from within.

Does it make sense to you that your talking points say democrats really want to bankrupt this country? If that were true why is it republicans threatening to default on our debt? And this only happens when they don’t have a R in the oval. Most of these republicans voted for CR’s when Trump was in office. Republicans only go to the brink if they don’t control the WH. Then, Wondy wonders why I don't care to associate myself with the so-called "conservative" party. It is amazing when I think back through my life to put together the train of rabbit holes that brought the GOP to the point of madness. I want the socially liberal big business northerners back in charge of the party because the real RINOs from the South and West have led the party down a path of ever more brazen stupidity.

But, they'll still point the finger at Democrats...even as the Democrats seem to be having a moment where they're clearly willing to point to their extremes and cry shame over their positions in the current war between Israel and Hamas. To be honest, I've struggled to find much better among many members of the libertarian movement these days too. It is all carnival barking and the worst of their ideas being features rather than bugs. Can't say I've become a Democrat, but I have definitely lost faith in the right over the past fifteen years in particular.

Yes, it makes perfect sense.

And the part about "Republicans threatening to default" is a bogus argument. A shutdown doesn't cause a default, prior federal debt continues to be paid during a shutdown, it only prevents new (wasteful) spending. What threatens a default is trillions of insane new Democrat spending, as we have had since Jan 2021.

It is the Constitutional power of the House to reign in and control spending that is dangerously out of control.
$9 trillion in new debt in less than 3 years by Biden and the Democrat-Bolsheviks.

And yes, the Democrats DO want to bankrupt the country, for exactly the reasons I've repeatedly stated: for enslavement of the U.S. to a globalist system, to prevent further U.S. foreign intervention in globalist plans. And because Democrats are increasingly obviously Marxist lunatics who want to destroy our constitutional capitalist system, and replace it with a one-party authoritarian marxist/"socialist" government, that the Democrats would have absolute control of.
The Democrat leadership further wants to hyper-inflate our currency, to inflate away our federal debt, and simultaneously bankrupt the savings of Americans by doing so.
So that virtually all Americans (except the Democrat-Bolshevik elite) are impoverished and dependent on the government for food and money to live, that allows the Democrat-Bolshevik party to have absolute control of virtually every American citizen.

This is not a new plan.
Democrat-Bolsheviks have been boasting about such authoritarian seizure since the Frankfurt School (of Cultural Marxists), Cloward-Piven strategy, Wade Rathke, William Ayers and the Weather Underground, Saul Alinsky, Hillary and Bill Clinton (Hillary Clinton is the chief prophet of Alinsky tactics), Barack and Michelle Obama (again, Barack Obama is another teacher and proponent of Alinsky tactics, others at ACORN called Obama "the unchallenged master" of Alinsky tactics. Obama was the protege of William Ayers. Obama was a member of the marxist Students For a Democratic Societ , that Obama never renounced, Obama who repeatedly said in speeches he would press the "radical transformation of America").
And now the like-minded marxist shadow government currently moving the puppet strings of a semi-conscious Joe Biden.

The problem on the Republican side is RINOs who campaign as Republicans, and then quietly do the opposite of what they campaigned on, cooperating with a Democrat-Bolshevik agenda for reasons unknown, and infuriating to the majority of Republican voters.
The John McCains, the Mitch McConnells, the John Thunes, the Paul Ryans and John Boehners, the Mitt Romneys, the Lindsey Grahams. I don't know if they betray their Republican voters out of greed or kickbacks, or for shared power of a uni-party elite, or (as was attempted with "Filegate" in the Bill Clinton era) if Republicans are blackmailed into going along with or not resisting Democrat legislation and power grabs.

Jim Jordan is the obvious choice for Republican House speaker, and RINOS are spitefully resisting allowing Jordan to lead a truly Republican majority.

There is an increasing awareness among Republican voters, of RINO leaders and the need to purge or primary them out. So that we can have a truly Republican-conservative leadership, that does what Republican voters truly want.
People like Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, John Cornyn, and Liz Cheney, who have repeatedly betrayed their voters, are now exposed for what they are, and on the way to being replaced by Reagan conservatives. ACTUAL conservaives who consistently appeal to a lot of Reagan Democrats as well. Who the Democrats consistently slander as "right wing" and "extreme".
No, they are just actual conservatives, in the Reagan tradition.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !

Dear God, you are so delusional, to see the carefully worded crocodile rhetoric of the Democrats, and credit them with actually believing what they're saying, and as having changed AT ALL from the Bolshevik lunatics they truly are, and have been since at least 2004.
No, moron, Democrats are lying through their teeth, and saying ANYTHING to fool the ideological rubes like you.

And that you can believe such strained convoluted lies and credit the DNC Bolsheviks with having some alleged virtue, just shows how far gone you are, and how desperate you are to believe them.

That's just 22 establishment deep state Republicans, having a hissy fit and taking revenge on the ACTUAL Republican conservatives in the House, spitefully depriving them of voting Rep. Jim Jordan in as speaker, who SHOULD be speaker, who REPUBLICAN VOTERS want in as speaker.
And by doing so, these 22 are screwing over the will of the Republican voters who elected them.
They did the opposite of what their voters want.

Rep. Matt Gaetz rightly said it was a clear manifestation of existence of the deep state, defying the will of the people.

Eventually this faction of Republicans will stop playing games, and select someone who will be a more conservative alternative to Kevin McCarthy or Steve Scalise, both of whom want to go soft on investigating criminal actions of he FBI regarding surveiling/weaponizing the FBI against Trump on behalf of he Democrats. That new Speaker pick should have ended with the vote for Jim Jordan, and there are other conservative choices beyond Jim Jordan, but the RINO games are just prolonging it a bit.

Kevin McCarthy with-held funding for campaigns of several ACTUAL conservative house candidates in the Nov 2022 electtion, or Republicans would have a larger majority now
(Likewise Mitch McConnell with-held funds from Senate MAGA/conservtive candidates, such as Ron Johnson. Otherwise Republicans would have more SENATE seats as well.)

I'm glad McCarthy is gone. And these prolonged antics are just the McCarthy-establishment wing having their revenge by rejecting Jim Jordan's speaker bid, to stick it to those who voted out McCarthy and wanted Jordan. Bu whoever gets selected eventually will be more conservative and effective than Kevin McCarthy was as speaker.

Matt Gaetz led a bid to remove Kevin McCarthy as speaker, because McCarthy had betrayed everything he promised to do in January, over the last 9 months, and has made trillions in spending concessions to the Democrats, in bill after bill. To the betrayal and deep frustration of Republicans everywhere, with every bill passed.
KEVIN McCARTHY is the RINO here, in his greater service to enabling Democrats, than to advancing the interests of voters who elected a Republican majority to.advance REPUBLICAN-CONSERVATIVE interests, NOT to cave in at every turn and enable Democrats to stack up $ 9 trillion more in debt in less than 3 years.

I'm glad McCarthy is gone.
And eventually, this move by Rep. Gaetz will result in a more conservative House speaker, who will actually represent the will of the majority who voted in Nov 2022 for a Republican House majority, and Republican speaker.

And you being a Leftist-Bolshevik liar, you're the last person whose word I'd take for defining what a RINO is.

I think most of the more moderate republicans in the house that Trumpers call rinos were able to get elected because they are from more competitive districts and states. This shit show and chaos is just a prelude to what’s to come if the GOP manages to hold onto the house majority so I hope voters are paying attention.

You're such a piece of lying excrement.

You know extremely well that I'm very conservative, in the Ronald Reagan / Pat Buchanan paleo-conservattive, Tea Party conservative, Freedom Caucus tradiion.

You know that I've been a conservative since Ronald Reagan was president, more conservative than George H.W. Bush, than Bob Dole, than George W. Bush, than John McCain, than Mitt Romney, and only with Trump in the White House did I feel again represented by a president fully defending actual conservative interests, for the first time since Reagan was president.

You KNOW that I only voted for Ross Perot in 1992 and 1996, and for Nader in 2000, in a protest vote to push the Republican party in a more conservative direction.

I've been saying this on these boards for over 20 years, you KNOW all this, so you're just exposing yourself as a liar, in trying to front this "Dave is a RINO" garbage.

And by the way, Iggy, you've been very up front here since 2008 about having scorn and contempt for any Republican name mentioned, and voting Democrat in every election since you got here. You at one time, over a decade ago, feigned support for Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan, but (exposing you as a piece-of-shit liar) you in the most unhinged language insult anyone, especially Trump, who has been successful in advancing a Ron Paul/Pat Buchanan conservative agenda.
You hate Fox News.
You hate Newsmax, OAN, American Conservative, Breitbart, Daily Caller, any conservative news source, and worship as manna from heaven the proven lies from CNN, Washingon Post, Politico, New York Times, and other Orwellian Newspeak liberal media.
PROVEN lies.
Absolutely proven. But no mater how discredited, that is what you lyingly sell.

So you are THE LAST person who could be trusted for opinion on who is a true conservative or a RINO.

REP MIKE JOHNSON (R-LA) VOTED IN AS NEW SPEAKER, WITH 217 VOTES

I still think Jim Jordan would have been a strong and decisive speaker, if not obstructed from winning by the RINO /establishment/deep state wing of he Republican House
Jim Jordan was obstructed by a secret ballot after only 3 votes, whereas sellout Kevin McCarthy was given 15 ballots before he finally won.

Jim Jordan was only 20 votes short, and then only 22 votes short on the 3rd vote. He could have won on another vote if given the chance.
The Deep State thought they could get someone like Emmer in. Another Boehner, Ryan or McCarhy. Trump publicly commenting about Emmer quickly killed his candidacy, though, fortunately.

I'm okay with how it worked out. Rep. Mike Johnson is a trustworthy conservative choice, I've seen him in a number of hearings.

And Jim Jordan remains head of the House judiciary committee, where he is much needed on investigations of Joe and Hunter Biden corruption, and on weaponization of the FBI and other federal agencies against conservatives, so that might arguably be where Jim Jordan's talents can remain most effective.
Investigations that McCarthy or Emmer or Steve Scalise would have softpedaled on.

Another one that tried to help Trump steal the election. I’m guessing the low bar for republicans falls somewhere between trying to steal elections to someone like Jordan who defied a congressional subpoena. The new Trump toady speaker was unveiled by booing and telling a reporter to shut up.

Another U.S. Representative who legally pursued the Constitutionally prescribed options to challenge an illegitimate election.

The same way Democrats challenged the 2000 election, the 2004 election, the 2016 election, in a nutshell, EVERY election Democrats didn't win the presidential race, over the last 20 years.
Nancy Pelosi, Kamala Harris, Hillary Clinton, and pretty much EVERY Democrat denied and undermined the presidential victories of George W. Bush and Donald Trump at every turn, every day they were in office.
That is different from Mike Johnson challenging the 2020 election's legitimacy... HOW ?

Except that records of the 2000, 2004, and 2016 elections were open to recount and legal challenge and verification.
Whereas the Democrat leadership, liberal media, social media and election officials won't even permit an audit or verification of the 2020 election, because it ACTUALLY IS illegitimate, and would not survive an election audit or re-count. Multiple [Democrat-run] elections supervisor offices in key battleground states nationwide, shredded the paper and electronic votes (that are supposed o be held for review for 22 months) but were shredded in the weeks immediately after the 2020 election. AGAINST legal requirements.

Nope, nothing suspicious here, NO SIR.... rolleyes

Sore losers and liars who tried to keep their lying loser in power by having all the votes in 4 states thrown out. The new speaker organized that effort that was rejected by Supreme Court with a solid conservative majority.

I guess you're talking the Democrats with Al Gore in 2000, John Kerry in 2004, and Hillary Clinton in 2016. smile

Every presidential election Democrats lost in the last 20 years they have challenged, slandered and delegitimized, despite being allowed multiple re-counts of the ballots in front of the global media.

But Republicans, with considerable evidence of election fraud in 2020, who were denied a re-count, and where votes were suspiciously shredded TO NOT EVEN ALLOW THE POSSIBILITY of a recount... and Republicans are portrayed as sore losers and of "undermining democracy", for just asking for confirmation of the election's legitimacy that the law prescribes they are entitled to, that Democrats shredded on their Bolshevik path to deceitful seizure of power.

Nope, previous elections had recounts but there wasn’t the attempt to throw out entire vote totals from states so that republican controlled legislatures could then choose electors to keep your loser in power.

As I said previously, no one on the Republican side was trying to throw out votes corruptly, ONLY trying to verify the suspicious Biden victory was not due to election corruption. And any Republican trying to CONSTITUTIONALLY verify the election ballots was intimidated and propagandized against.
No re-count was permitted, and tampered voting machines, election officials who couldn't independently verify results and just had to take Dominion's word on the counting, fake water main brakes, sending Republican vote observers home while Democrat election workers counted and rigged votes all night, missing flash drives and shredded ballots (that were constitutionally SUPPOSED to have been kept on file for 22 months for such a legal re-count) are AN ABSOLUTE FACT.

Selecting alternate Republican elector persons iin the event a blue state turns out to be a red state, is also constitutional and not "throwing out" votes corruptly or trying to. It is exactly what JFK did in selecting Hawaii alternate electors in the 1960 election.
Trump's team in the 2000 election --CONSTITUTIONALLY AND LEGALLY--- made the same preparations for a potential win if the state on re-count turned his way.

It is an absolute fact that Trump was winning in all 6 battleground states, most by hundreds of thousands of votes, up until 3AM on election night, from which point Republican vote counters in multiple states were sent home, allowing corrupt Democrats to run wild with fake vote counting, and by the oddest coincidence, ONLY THEN did votes counted from that point make a dramatic turn in favor of Biden.
