Back to the Authority...I understand that Apollo and Midnighter are superman/batman clones, and the wingy, tibetan chick is hawkman/girl or something. But who are the other members supposed to represent I haven't read this stuff in ages.

Huh. Other than the whole Midnighter/Apollo-Bats/Supes angle - which is too obvious to miss - I never thought that the others were supposed to parallel JLA characters. I s'pose Jenny is WW taken to the next level with her 'tude about men and all, but methinks that even that is pushing it.

I keep hearing the argument that DC hates the authority because it makes their real universe characters look bad...

I hadn't heard that, though it doesn't surprise me.

I never thought any of them were direct clones except those 3. anyway thanks that's what I thought...I really liked the stormwatch stuff just as well it makes more sense as you see the build up to the Authority in logical steps.

Never read the Stormwatch stuff. That good? Is it in trade by any chance? And I haven't read Authority (or Planetery for that matter) since it originally came out. I remember really enjoying it, but then not picking up "volume 2" (as it were) when Quitely pencilled. I actually want to re-read it again after reading this thread...

For Authority, I'd suggest going for the two Absolute editions. Well worth the money...

Could someone list the Stormwatch/Authority trades in chronological order? I'd like to start from the beginning and can't be arsed to actually look the trades up myself...

Ellis's pivotal work on Stormwatch is collected in the following trade paperbacks:

  • Force of Nature - Stormwatch #37-42
  • Lightning Strikes - Stormwatch #43-47
  • Change or Die - Stormwatch #48-50, Stormwatch Preview #1, Stormwatch vol. 2 #1-3
  • A Finer World - Stormwatch vol. 2 #4-9
  • Final Orbit - Stormwatch vol. 2 #10-11, WildC.A.T.s/Aliens one-shot

    The Authority

  • Relentless - Collects # 1-8
  • Under New Management - Collects # 9-16.
  • Earth Inferno and Other Stories - Collects # 17-20, the Annual 2000 and the Summer Special.
  • Transfer of Power - Collects # 22-29

OR, as I would suggest:

  • The Absolute Authority Vol. 1 - Collects # 1-12
  • The Absolute Authority Vol. 2 - Collects # 13-20, 22, & 27-29

The issues left out of the second Absolute editions are the fillers that Peyer and Co. did that have real bearing on the Millar/Quitely stuff...

WildC.A.T.s/Aliens one-shot..this is one of the only crossovers that actually meant something.

It meant something bacuse it killed most of Stormwatch.

Now several of them...Fuji, Winter, Fahrenheit and a couple of others...are back.

So what does it mean NOW?

Oderint, dum metuant.

You are a god damned idiot, you know that? You ought to be smacked upside your dumb-fuck head, even after all these years. Shame on you!

I remember reading an article about the Authority in Kuala Lumpar airport in a local publication, and realised the title had become culturally significant.

Theo - congrats, man.

Basti - have just remembered I owe you some money! Shit, sorry.

Pimping my site, again.

And again, what's wrong with it? It looks fine on my screen. Are the pics too big? What's up?

Still messed up.

Don't worry about it. I didn't plan on reading the whole article anyway.
