President-elect Barack Obama is preparing to issue an executive order his first week in office -- and perhaps his first day -- to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, according to two presidential transition team advisers.
It's unlikely the detention facility at the Navy base in Cuba will be closed anytime soon. In an interview last weekend, Obama said it would be "a challenge" to close it even within the first 100 days of his administration.
But the order, which one adviser said could be issued as early as Jan. 20, would start the process of deciding what to do with the estimated 250 Al Qaeda and Taliban suspects and potential witnesses who are being held there. Most have not been charged with a crime.
The Guantanamo directive would be one of a series of executive orders Obama is planning to issue shortly after he takes office next Tuesday, according to the two advisers. Also expected is an executive order about certain interrogation methods, but details were not immediately available Monday.
The advisers spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the orders that have not yet been finalized.
Obama transition team spokeswoman Brooke Anderson declined comment Monday. The two advisers said the executive order will direct the new administration to look at each of the cases of the Guantanamo detainees to see whether they can be released or if they should still be held -- and if so, where.
Many of the Guantanamo detainees are cleared for release, and others could be sent back to their native countries and held there. But many nations have resisted Bush administration efforts to repatriate the prisoners back home. Both Obama advisers said it's hoped that nations that had initially resisted taking detainees will be more willing to do so after dealing with the new administration.
What remains the thorniest issue for Obama, the advisers said, is what to do with the rest of the prisoners -- including at least 15 so-called "high value detainees" considered among the most dangerous there.
Detainees held on U.S. soil would have certain legal rights that they were not entitled to while imprisoned in Cuba. It's also not clear if they would face trial through the current military tribunal system, or in federal civilian courts, or though a to-be-developed legal system that would mark a hybrid of the two.
Where to imprison the detainees also is a problem.
Obama promised during the presidential campaign to shut Guantanamo, endearing him to constitutional law experts, civil libertarians and other critics who called the Bush administration detentions a violation of international law.
But he acknowledged in an interview Sunday that the process of closing the prison would be harder and longer than initially thought.
"That's a challenge," Obama said on ABC's "This Week." "I think it's going to take some time and our legal teams are working in consultation with our national security apparatus as we speak to help design exactly what we need to do.
"But I don't want to be ambiguous about this," he said. "We are going to close Guantanamo and we are going to make sure that the procedures we set up are ones that abide by our constitution."
President George W. Bush established military tribunals to prosecute detainees at Guantanamo. He also supports closing the prison, but strongly opposes bringing prisoners to the United States.
Lawmakers have moved to block transfer of the detainees to at least two potential and frequently discussed military facilities: an Army prison at Fr. Leavenworth, Kan., and a Navy brig in Charleston, S.C. A Marine Corps prison at Camp Pendleton in Southern California also is under consideration, a Pentagon official said.
Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., said Monday that "it's hard to show why terror suspects should be housed in Kansas."
"If the holding facility at Guantanamo Bay is closed, a new facility should be built, designed specifically to handle detainees," Brownback said in a statement.
A Pentagon team also has been looking at how to shut Guantanamo and move its detainees but spokesman Bryan Whitman did not immediately know Monday whether it was completed.
The executive order marks only a first step at what is likely to be a long legal process. Still, American Civil Liberties Union legislative director Caroline Fredrickson called "extremely meaningful" even if the Guantanamo prison can't be closed immediately.
"It's clear that there is a process of time that will be necessary to close it properly, to make sure that human rights and respected and security is protected," Fredrickson said. "But the fact that it's set in motion is extremely good news."
I don't agree but understand that some liberals want to retreat from Iraq. But I don't understand why they want to give up a successful war on the terrorists that the CIA and military have been accomplishing.
Closing gitmo, not putting pressure in interrogations? How can so many people have forgotten 9-11 and dont realize it aint over yet? Why isnt the fact that Obama wants to stop a succesful campign an issue? How did he manage to wrap it up in a package with Iraq?
After generations of finding their voice in dissidence, some on America's left wing are adjusting not only to a new, postelection comfort with patriotic symbols, but the political reality they represent. Believing in Obama after inauguration day will mean identifying with the machinery of American power.
"There's a left-wing tradition of being systematically opposed to the US government, knee-jerk reactionary - most of our presidents have made it fairly easy to do," said Jo Freeman, author of "At Berkeley in the Sixties," a memoir of her student activism. "Those who view everything the US does as automatically suspect already have a problem doing that with Obama."
At Berkeley, the university has, quite deliberately, chosen to host its first-ever large-scale observance of a presidential inauguration in a spot most closely identified with its radicalism, said Chancellor Robert J. Birgeneau. At Sproul Plaza, site of the self-described Free Speech Movement protests beginning in 1964 - now commemorated with a monument declaring "this soil and the air space above it should not be part of any nation and shall not be subject to any entity's jurisdiction" - students will gather around giant television screens to take in the nation's most solemn ritual.
"It will be a patriotic celebration," Birgeneau said in an interview. "That small circle will now be surrounded by a lot of students who are happy to be members of a nation that just elected its first African-American president."
Not since Franklin Roosevelt turned the federal government into an aggressive agent of liberalism - pushing the New Deal at home and confronting fascism abroad - has the left felt such a deep attachment and invested such hopes in a head of state.
"People in the '30s felt that for once the government was on their side," Pulitzer Prize-winning Berkeley historian Leon F. Litwack said in an interview. "They had never had that kind of relationship to a president before."
Disagreements with American foreign policy, particularly in Vietnam, fueled a cynicism about American might and its trappings, said Litwack. He has written in praise of Free Speech Movement leaders for "eschewing the conventional flag-waving, mindless, orchestrated patriotism. . . . They defined loyalty to one's country as disloyalty to its pretenses, a willingness to unmask its leaders, and a calling to subject its institutions, government, and wars to critical examination, not only the decisions made by rulers but often their indecision."
Such a view of patriotism was so hardened in Berkeley - where, after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Fire Department removed flags from its trucks for fear that they could become targets of antiwar demonstrators - that a gathering of College Republicans made the front page of the Los Angeles Times in 2003 for walking down Telegraph waving flags and singing "America the Beautiful" as a sardonic provocation.
A similar, if earnest, display on election night "did strike me as funny and ironic," said Mark Rudd, who organized campus protests in the 1960s as a national leader of Students for a Democratic Society. "For the last eight years - and probably for much longer - most radicals have been mourning for our country. . . . Obviously the empire is not going to fall overnight, but at least there's been a popular vote that changes the direction of the last 40 years."
The Star Market, a small Berkeley grocery with a robust selection of legumes, recently posted next to its cash register a letter to the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle imploring readers to fly the Stars and Stripes on the day of Obama's inauguration. "In recent times, our flag has been displayed more by one side of the political spectrum than the other," wrote Paul Templeton of Berkeley. "Let's rescue it from unreflective, knee-jerk patriotism."
Such spontaneous patriotism was the reaction to Obama's victory for many in neighborhoods where displays of Tibetan nationalism had been more common than its American equivalent. Election-night revelers in Harvard Square sang "The Star-Spangled Banner." Those in West Philadelphia chanted "USA.!" A celebrating mob in Manhattan's Union Square screamed, "This is what democracy looks like," emptied of the sarcasm that made it a favorite refrain of anti-globalization protestors.
So, the upshot of all this is that the radical left doesn't love this country and never did. They only love their new glorious leader and the opportunity to seize power.
Over 300 workers with brooms marched alongside vacuum trucks that looked like Zambonis, all plowing through more than 100 tons of paper, plastic water bottles, newspapers, food wrappers and hundreds of tiny American flags left behind.
I guess that, under the new regime, trampling American flags into the ground during an inauguration is now the highest form of patriotism.
A Democratic fundraising video on President Obama's political Web site shows an American flag mural being covered in graffiti and desecrated with slogans about health care reform.
As a heart monitor beeps ominously in the background, a graffiti artist paints over the Stars and Stripes with phrases criticizing opposition to the Democratic legislation, including "profit over life" and the crossed-out words "death panel." The whole flag is eventually smeared with paint and blacked out.
One of 20 finalists in the Democratic National Committee's "Health Reform Video Challenge," the video shows the Los Angeles-based graffiti artist "Saber" at work, according to a copy of the video posted to YouTube.
The DNC is using the splattered Old Glory to pick up some change, asking for donations to air the winner of its contest. "[T]o put the winning ad on national television, we'll need folks to chip in and help cover the cost of getting the ad on the air," the DNC says on its my.BarackObama.com Web site, which hosts its Organizing for America campaign program.
"I think that most Americans no matter what their political persuasion is will find this pretty obscene and pretty shocking," said Armstrong Williams, a conservative radio host. Williams said it was a bad message to send for the DNC to give "energy and credibility" to an artist desecrating the flag.
The video made it past a panel of judges "comprised of DNC employees," the site says. All finalists were screened to find "the most apt, creative, original and interesting video" that provides "clarity of message concerning supporting health insurance reform."
Supporters defended the video and said it might strike a chord with Americans who are interested in health care reform.
Note: This is not some outsider posting in the public portion of the DNC website. This is a video projected reviewed and approved by Democrat Party employees, some of whom are still defending the video.
Michelle Malkin had some great insight into the graffitti-flag-mural propaganda for Obamacare. (About 4 minutes into the Youtube clip below)
In addition to the legislation attempts by Democrats to slam through public-option healthcare reform that even many Democrats at this point will not vote for. And so Pelosi, Reid and the crazy-left are trying to ram it through unscrutinized, using various deceptive tactics, and by slandering Obamacare opponents.
The also-mentioned Florida Representative Grayson is the poster-boy for uncivility, who Obama (far from criticizing Grayson's antics) has praised as an important player in the Democratic Party.
Just another daily snapshot of how much liberal Democrats despise America, and work at every turn to undermine and slander those who love America and work to protect America from their destructive reforms, trojan-horsed in under the banner of "change".
The video made it past a panel of judges "comprised of DNC employees," the site says. All finalists were screened to find "the most apt, creative, original and interesting video" that provides "clarity of message concerning supporting health insurance reform."
Aside from the flag-desecrating, the selected video has no "clarity of message" and provides no information. That's the saving grace, I guess. This is the best they can do to propagandize Obamacare. And it's still total and meaningless excrement, just scribbling liberal slogans that will convert no one.
That the DNC itself is connected to selecting this flag desecration as the winner, posting it on the Obama website no less, is insane in its anti-Americanism, from those in some of the highest seats of DNC power. Hopefully, it will only be another nail in their political coffins, and start a grassfire of popular outrage that will get them removed decisively in 2010 and 2012.
Demagogues scream at people that their government is illegitimate, that their country has been "taken away," that their elected officials are "traitors" and that their freedom is at risk. They have a right to free speech, which I will always defend. But they shouldn't be surprised if some listeners take them literally. washingtonpost.com
Yeah. Remember how civilized the democrats were during the anti-Bush protests:
Just so we're clear: attacking America under Bush=legitimate free speech, attacking Obama but not America=evil hate speech that deserves to be censored.
In the mid-1990s, Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn hosted meetings at their Chicago home to introduce Barack Obama to their neighbors during his first run for the Illinois Senate.
There is strong evidence suggesting that Ayers wrote Dreams from My Father, Barack Obama's 1995 memoir. In October 2009, conservative blogger Anne Leary reported that Ayers had personally told her that he was the book's author.
In 1995 Ayers -- whose stated educational objective is to “teach against oppression” as embodied in “America’s history of evil and racism, thereby forcing social transformation” -- founded a “school reform organization” called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC). He appointed Obama as the group's first chairman.
When National Review Online writer Stanley Kurtz in 2008 reviewed the CAC archives at the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois, he found that Ayers had been one of five members of a working group that assembled the initial CAC board which hired Obama.
“Ayers founded CAC and was its guiding spirit,” Kurtz wrote. “No one would have been appointed the CAC chairman without his approval.” According to Kurtz, the CAC archives show that Obama and Ayers worked as a team to advance the foundation's agenda -- with Obama responsible for fiscal matters while Ayers focused on shaping educational policy. The archived documents further reveal that Ayers served as an ex-officio member of the board that Obama chaired through CAC's first year; that Ayers served with Obama on the CAC governance committee; and that Ayers worked with Obama to write CAC’s bylaws.
A September 2008 WorldNetDaily report offers still more details: “Ayers made presentations to board meetings chaired by Obama. Ayers also spoke for the Chicago School Reform Collaborative before Obama's board, while Obama periodically spoke for the board at meetings of the collaborative … According to the documents, the CAC granted money to far-leftist causes, such as the radical Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, which …has done work on behalf of Obama’s presidential campaign.”
WorldNetDaily reports further that “while Obama chaired the board of the CAC, more than $600,000 was granted to an organization founded by Ayers and run by Mike Klonsky, a former top communist activist. Klonsky was leader of the Marxist-Leninist Communist Party, which was effectively recognized by China as the all-but-official U.S. Maoist party.”
In 1999 Ayers joined the Woods Fund of Chicago, where he served as a director alongside Barack Obama until the latter left the Woods board in December 2002. Ayers went on to become Woods' Chairman of the Board. In 2002 the Woods Fund made a grant to Northwestern University Law School's Children and Family Justice Center, where Ayers' wife, Bernardine Dohrn, was employed.
At a 2007 reunion of former members of the Weather Underground and Students for a Democratic Society, Ayers painted a verbal portrait of life in the United States which included the following passages:
"This is a time not only of great stress and oppression and authoritarianism, and a kind of rising incipient American form of fascism, and what the government counts on, what the powerful count on, is that we will stay quiet. It’s the idea that we can tolerate these intolerable things without screaming, without somehow coming out, joining up and coming out and saying something. It’s what they count on in terms of keeping things under control."
"Empire resurrected and unapologetic, war without end, an undefined enemy that’s supposed to be a rallying point for a new kind of energized jingoistic patriotism, unprecedented and unapologetic military expansion, white supremacy changing its form, but essentially intact, attacks on women and girls, violent attacks, growing surveillance in every sphere of our lives, on and on and on, the targeting of gay and lesbian people as a kind of a scapegoating gesture to keep our minds off of what’s really happening."
And here is how Ayers characterized himself and the longtime radical comrades to whom he was speaking:
"Even though we think of ourselves as political, we weren’t politicians. We were people who had a moral vision of what was possible. And when we talk, for example, about health care, about peace, we’re talking a language of ethics, not a language of instrumentalism or opportunism, or what we might get. So we have to speak in a language that’s large and generous and encompassing. And then we have to act."
In December 2009, Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn were among the 1,300 American and European activists who traveled to the Egypt-Gaza border to participate in a pro-Palestinian, anti-Israel demonstration led by Code Pink.
Ayers spent a number of years as a professor of education and a Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois, where, as of October 2008, his office door was adorned with photographs of Mumia Abu-Jamal, Che Guevara and Malcolm X. He also has authored a series of books about parenting and educating children, including: A Kind and Just Parent; To Become a Teacher; City Kids; City Teachers; To Teach; The Good Preschool Teacher; Zero Tolerance: Resisting the Drive for Punishment in Our Schools; and Teaching Towards Freedom: Moral Commitment and Ethical Action in the Classroom. In August 2010, Ayers announced that he was retiring from academia.
Today Ayers sits on the board of the Miranda International Center, a Venezuelan government think tank dedicated to bringing Cuba-style education to Venezuelan schools. Ayers is a great admirer of Venezuela's Marxist President, Hugo Chavez.
Ayers and Dorhn have three children. One is named Malik (the Muslim name of Malcolm X), and another is named Zayd (after Zayd Shakur, a Black Panther killed while driving the cop-killer JoAnne Chesimard -- a.k.a. Assata Shakur -- to a hideout).
Ayers and Dohrn also raised Chesa Boudin because his natural parents, Kathy Boudin and David Gilbert, were serving lengthy prison sentences for their roles in the Brinks murders, a joint Weatherman and Black Liberation Army operation in which two police officers and an armed guard were killed. Unlike Ayers, Dohrn actually spent time in prison as a result of their terrorist activities — a contempt citation for refusing to honor a grand jury subpoena in the Brinks investigation.
Note Obama's extensive ties to William Ayers.
There can be no question Obama was hand-picked by Ayers as a political friendly face that would advance his radical anti-American ideology.
Democratic political candidates can skip this weekend's July 4th parades. A new Harvard University study finds that July 4th parades energize only Republicans, turn kids into Republicans, and help to boost the GOP turnout of adults on Election Day.
"Fourth of July celebrations in the United States shape the nation's political landscape by forming beliefs and increasing participation, primarily in favor of the Republican Party," said the report from Harvard.
"The political right has been more successful in appropriating American patriotism and its symbols during the 20th century. Survey evidence also confirms that Republicans consider themselves more patriotic than Democrats. According to this interpretation, there is a political congruence between the patriotism promoted on Fourth of July and the values associated with the Republican party. Fourth of July celebrations in Republican dominated counties may thus be more politically biased events that socialize children into Republicans," write Harvard Kennedy School Assistant Professor David Yanagizawa-Drott and Bocconi University Assistant Professor Andreas Madestam.
This article not only exposes that Republicans are the true patriots who truly understand and preserve what the United States is about. It also exposes the clear aversion among liberal/Democrats to our core founding Constitutional values.
Liberals have no pride in our culture, loathe the celebration of it, and always look to socialist Europe as the gold-standard of what our American society should be, rather than to our founding principles and the precedent of Constitutional law. And Obama's appointed officials often openly praise the communist likes of Chairman Mao, Che Guevera, and Hugo Chavez.
TUCSON, June 16 (UPI) -- Tucson's Chicano studies courses are anti-American and must end or the schools will lose $15 million in state funding, an Arizona public-school official said.
The 11th-grade Mexican-American studies classes include textbooks and other materials indicating white people were seen as "oppressors" of Latinos, Superintendent of Public Instruction John Huppenthal said, citing a state audit permitted under a new law.
The law, signed by Republican Gov. Jan Brewer, bans classes from kindergarten to 12th grade that are deemed to promote the overthrow of the U.S. government, encourage resentment toward a race or class of people, designed primarily for a single ethnic group or advocate ethnic solidarity.
The Tucson schools' Web site "clearly indicates the program is primarily designed for pupils of a particular ethnic race -- couple this with the fact that an extraordinary percentage of students enrolled in program classes are Hispanic (over 90 percent)," the audit cited by The Arizona Republic alleged.
In addition, "Curriculum and materials repeatedly emphasize the importance of building Hispanic nationalism and unity in the face of assimilation and oppression," the audit alleged.
Tucson district Superintendent John Pedicone said: "Here's the reality: Out of 13,000 high-school students, 647 of them take these courses -- 555 were Hispanic and the rest were across the board."
School board President Mark Stegeman said the board would likely discuss the audit Friday. It may appeal the finding or consider other options, he said.
Eleven teachers and the Mexican-American Studies Department director declined to work with auditors for their report, citing legal advice.
They are suing the state, alleging the ethnic-studies law is unconstitutional.
Yet another example of liberal teachers and administrators indoctrinating into the new generation an anti-Americanism and self-loathing of our country and its history.
Liberal or conservative, the real issue is why anyone thinks it helps these kids (or kids from any other country) to get ahead in the world by teaching them this victimization or ethnic identity crap. This isn't going to get these kids into a good college, or teach them a trade. It isn't going to help them get along with other people. If anything, its cruel to the kids in that it holds them back.

Allan Bloom in his book Closing of the American Mind, describes the education emphasis in recent decades on liberal indoctrination and political correctness, over actual education. The result being "American high school graduates are among the most sensitive illiterates in the world."
There's also the example of the Democrat-heavy IRS, who in the recent scandal singled out 501 (c)(3) and (c)(4) groups for scrutiny that have in their names "Tea Party", "patriot" or "Constitution".
In what they choose to target as their enemies, they are the definition of hating America and its core beliefs and principles, as an obstacle to their own agenda.
That's in addition to the liberal/left Obama administration's Homeland Security memo that singled out miltiary veterans and Tea Party members for special surveilance as potential terrorists.
Liberals who bemoan discrimination, intolerance, restraint of Constitutional freedoms, and promotion of hatred toward various abberant minorities, have absolutely no problem with discriminating against, being intolerant of, restricting Constitutional freedoms of, and directing hate-filled scapegoat rhetoric against conservatives.
EXACTLY what they accuse Republicans/conservatives of doing, is EXACTLY what liberals/Democrats do themselves, to those who oppose their beliefs.
I'd almost forgotten the Russian spy ring that was discovered and deported a few years ago. In addition to the glamourous way the media covered a good-looking female Russian spy, I was amazed to just discover this:
Why is there any surprise in America that the Cold War never really ended?
When the Soviet Union collapsed on its own misery, Communism struck out for greener pastures in the West. And you can’t get anymore “West” than America.
A place in the sun was being prepared in America for Mikhail Gorbachev, even before he abandoned ship.
This is what Gorbachev told the Politburo in 1989: “Gentlemen, comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about glasnost and perestroika and democracy in the coming years. These are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant change in the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our aim is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep.” (Italics CFP’s).
And disarming America is precisely what Gorbachev went on to successfully do.
It’s not as if Gorbachev faded into the woodwork after his well celebrated arrival in America. To this day, he’s an active member of the Maurice Strong, George Soros triumvirate pulling the puppet strings of President Barack Obama.
No one eased the path for Gorbachev’s agenda to close federal military bases around the U.S. more than Nancy Pelosi.
“Pelosi’s involvement in the disposal of federal military surplus land is matched only by Gorbachev, who as founder of Green Cross International (GCI) devised a mechanism for converting American military bases to civilian uses converting the bases over to “global centers for sustainability.” (Canada Free Press, Nov. 15, 2006).
During her Presidio stint, it is alleged that she was an investor in a real estate investment called Presidio Partners.
Gorby hit the ground running upon his arrival in America. His mission of converting American military bases to global centers for sustainability came just two years after he resigned as president of the Soviet Union on Dec. 25, 1991.
GCI built on the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro and supported the implementation of the Summit’s Agenda 21.
It was Nancy Pelosi who patiently shepherded Agenda 21 through Congress. On March 29, 1993, she introduced a joint resolution (H.J. RES166) to renew the call for the United States to “assume a strong leadership role in implementing Agenda 21 and other Summit agreements”, eventually gathering 67 co-sponsors for her bill, roughly 30 of whom are still in Congress to the present day.
In a speech entitled “From Swords to Plowshares”, delivered in the House of Representatives on June 4, 1992, Pelosi cheered the arrival of Gorbachev to San Francisco’s Presidio as a tenant.
“The National Park Service is actively seeking ideas for programs and tenants at this spectacular site. Last month, former Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev visited the Presidio to propose that the Gorbachev Foundation/use be located at the Presidio when the army leaves. In his words, `it is wonderful and symbolic that a military base is being converted for use by the people’.”
“As the cold war ends,” Pelosi continued, “it is, indeed, fitting that this army garrison -—one of the oldest in the United States—- will be transformed to a monument of peace, environmental preservation and recreation as a global park.”
Less than a year after Pelosi’s fawning words, Gorbachev and his 100% American, pre-funded $3.5 million Gorbachev Foundation moved into a white, shingled bayfront house at the historical Presidio overlooking the Golden Bridge.
This anti-American activist in office was one of Gorbachev’s most useful idiots as far back as 1992.
Now we find that the S.V.R., the successor to the Soviet K.G.B. planted Russian spies in the United States to gather information and recruit more agents.
“On Monday, federal prosecutors accused 11 people of being part of a Russian espionage ring, living under false names and deep cover in a patient scheme to penetrate what one coded message called American “policy making circles”. (The New York Times, June 28, 2010).
Al Qaeda-like, the Russian spies had lived for more than a decade in American cities and suburbs from Seattle to New York, “where they seemed to be ordinary couples working ordinary jobs, chatting to the neighbors about schools and apologizing for noisy teenagers”.
The enemy among us, it seems, just came crashing through all conspiracy theories.
The easy road to America for the Russian spy ring, busted by the FBI, was paved long ago by the likes of Nancy Pelosi.
Too bad treason seems to have gone off the books with Benedict Arnold.
Snopes actually has that piece of conservative propaganda and rates it as false. On a side note I'm glad that you make it very clear as to who actually is doing the hating.

With all due respect, M E M, this president at multiple turns has openly expressed his contempt for our country, its heroes, its history, and our current military.
Obama has (or did until some have resigned) marxists in his administration like Van Jones, Valerie Jarrett, Ron Bloom, Anita Dunn, Mark Lloyd and so forth, who have openly praised the likes of Mao and Hugo Chaves. Obama has undermined and endangered the victories that others won in Iraq and Afghanistan by premature withdrawal of troops. Obama betrayed our allies Poland and Czech Republic, negotiating away their missile defense shield to the Russians, without so much as even consulting them. Obama has not only neglected to deal with Iran's nuclear threat, but leaked Israel's independent plan to invade Iran using airfields in Aizerbaijan. Thanks to Obama's treason against Israel, that is no longer an option. Obama betrayed details of Seal Team 6's Bin Ladin raid, that likewise revealed military secrets for his own short term P.R. gain, while treasonously endangering our military, and thus the nation.
Obama has denied both land and offshore oil drilling permits, that have endangered our energy and economic independence. Obama has likewise declared war on fossil feuls, and especially the coal industry. And true to his word, the cost of oil and other feul has resultantly, as obama planned in 2008 in a video interview, "necessarily skyrocketed".
And worst of all under Obama, he has taken our federal debt from 10 trillion to 17 trillion, and will have more than doubled it by the time he leaves office. Adding BY FAR more debt than all other presidents combined. And in the process, Obama has risked collapse of the dollar. Which has a remarkable similarity to the marxist plan of Cloward and Piven strategy, to deliberately collapse the system with impossibly high entitlements, and under cover of the chaos, administer unprecedented wealth redistribution that could never be done without the cover of a crisis.
There's also building of FEMA camps designed for interrogation and holding of political prisoners, the militarizing of our police force, the accumulation of 1.6 billion rounds of hollow-point ammunition, and passing of the NDAA 2012 and 2013.
If you have any reasonable explanation for these things, I would love to hear it. They look a heck of a lot like an authoritarian power-grab, and the destruction of our Constitutional republic.
Add to that Obama's marxist beliefs that have been clearly cited since his high school and college years, and his close association with fiercely anti-American and pro-Soviet and pro-Maoist figures his entire adult life, from Frank Marshall Davis, to both his own parents, to his grandparents, to his college roomates and professors, to Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, Derrick Bell, and the marxist radicals he appointed to his own presidential administration.
From the very beginning, many writers, scholars, and commentators have attempted to define the essence of Barack Obama's presidency.
It isn't easy to find a simple label for such a multifaceted individual. On any given day, Obama may seem like a play-for-keeps Chicago pol who rubs elbows with some shady characters; a hardcore environmentalist wedded to a radical green agenda; a crony capitalist with surprisingly close ties to deep-pocketed corporate interest groups; a progressive wanting to sunder the chains of the constitution to hugely expand government à la Franklin Delano Roosevelt; a Jimmy Carter clone, whose foreign policy is marked by turning his back on America's allies while wooing, if not embracing, the leaders of unfriendly regimes; a Fabian socialist, too cagey to advocate outright socialism, but always in favor of more government economic planning and more redistribution of wealth; a hardcore radical with close personal and ideological ties to various militant revolutionaries (e.g., Bill Ayers), political revolutionaries (e.g., Saul Alinsky), and communists (e.g., Frank Marshall Davis, who is the subject of my colleague Paul Kengor's newest book, The Communist).
All these assessments ring true, but they are incomplete. The ideological influences acting upon Barack Obama are multifarious. There is, however, an attitudinal quality that seems to be the common denominator linking those ideological underpinnings. The salient, definitive characteristic of the man and his presidency was crystalized for me when Congress cited his attorney general for contempt.
"That's it," I thought: contempt. Never have we seen a president so full of naked contempt for any person or idea or policy that does not accord with his own vision, plans, and beliefs. Obama doesn't just disagree with others; he holds them in contempt.
Obama has shown contempt for American friends and allies. He insulted the Czechs and Poles when he unilaterally and without warning repudiated our missile defense agreements with them. His contemptuous snubs and denigrations of Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu are notorious. He recently showed contempt for the British by refusing to say he would recognize Britain's claim to sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, even if the Falklands' residents voted for British sovereignty in a plebiscite. And just as Jimmy Carter ensured the shah's departure by rejecting him, so Obama paved the way for the Muslim Brotherhood's rise to power in Egypt by snubbing, ignoring, and abandoning a flawed ally rather than work with him to encourage reforms.
The president has shown his contempt for American voters in various ways, from whispering to Russian leader Medvedev that he will be able to concede more to Putin after he wins re-election to having the Justice Department fight state voter ID laws to decreeing that illegal immigrants be given work permits that will lead to driver's licenses that will lead to illegals being registered to vote under various "motor voter" statutes.
He has shown contempt for Republicans -- bluntly telling them "I won" (with the unspoken but clearly implied message, "Keep quiet in the back seat while I choose the country's policies") in one of his first negotiations with them; storming out of negotiations when Republicans try to represent their constituents, and even (so I have been told by a member of Congress) by looking out the window rather than engage politely with a GOP congressional leader on the rare occasion of being alone in the Oval Office with him.
Obama has contempt for our Constitution, as shown by his willful and blatantly unconstitutional non-recess "recess appointments." Similarly, he shows contempt for the rule of law by arbitrarily deciding what laws he will enforce. Early on, he ignored two centuries of settled bankruptcy law by shafting GM's and Chrysler's secured creditors and giving the loot to the UAW instead. His Justice Department has refused to prosecute black violations of civil rights laws, disdained to enforce the Defense of Marriage Act, and perennially declined to enforce federal immigration laws. He also decided earlier this year that the No Child Left Behind Act would apply to some states, but not to others.
He has shown contempt for federalism and for leaders of state governments that exercise their Tenth Amendment rights. When Texas refused to disburse federal Medicaid dollars for abortions, Obama had a fit and withdrew $30 million of Medicaid funding for many health programs geared toward poor women in Texas to show his pique. More recently, when the Supreme Court said that Arizona could take some steps to deal with illegal immigrants, Obama immediately announced the suspension of existing agreements between federal and state officials and directed federal authorities to refuse to take official calls from Arizona that reported illegal immigrant activity.
Speaking of the Supreme Court, Obama has manifested a contemptuous attitude toward members of the Court by publicly scolding them for their Citizens United decision during a State of the Union address, and this year by waging a public campaign to influence the Court's decision on ObamaCare.
Obama has shown contempt for fellow Democrats, too. While sitting in the balcony during his most recent State of the Union address, I was shocked when the president, superficially paying lip service to the practice of patching up differences and learning to work together, reminded the whole world that he had defeated Hillary Clinton, but now she was behaving like a good loser and working for him.
He has contempt for America and our place in the world, disavowing American exceptionalism and making exaggerated bows to foreign leaders. Apparently, he gains some personal satisfaction in American abasement and apology and rather than showing his respect for the country he represents -- a country that, despite occasional missteps, has done more to free people from political and economic tyranny than any other republic in the history of the world.
He has shown contempt for our military personnel and traditions, such as by opting to endanger the lives of special forces by exposing their identities for political gain, by ordering the Navy to purchase taxpayer-subsidized (and far less efficient and reliable) renewable energy, and by proposing to increase health care costs for troops while holding those costs down for unionized civilian workers at the Pentagon.
Obama manifests a contempt for truth that is egregious even by the low standard of politicians. He has fabricated parts of his life in his autobiographies and told multiple whoppers about his signature "achievement," ObamaCare, and his habitually contemptuous attitude itself has made a mockery of his promise to bridge gaps and unite Americans.
I feel sorry for the president. Living and breathing contempt for others is a lousy way to live, and it must make him miserable. The larger problem, though, is whether the government of a democratic republic can function effectively enough to address our country's mammoth problems with a president who discourages dialog by chronically oozing scorn, disrespect, and contempt. Such an imperious, supercilious attitude seems more appropriate for a caesar than an American president. Do we want four more years of such a toxic, divisive tone in Washington?
Liberals who bemoan discrimination, intolerance, restraint of Constitutional freedoms, and promotion of hatred toward various abberant minorities, have absolutely no problem with discriminating against, being intolerant of, restricting Constitutional freedoms of, and directing hate-filled scapegoat rhetoric against conservatives.
EXACTLY what they accuse Republicans/conservatives of doing, is EXACTLY what liberals/Democrats do themselves, to those who oppose their beliefs.
Who are these ASSHOLES in the liberal DNC who cheered Obama on when he talked about creating "a civilian national security force, that is just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded as our military." WHAT?!?
For what purpose, other than to establish authoritarian control, "radically transform" America (another Obama slogan from the 2008 campaign), and shred the Constitution?
Liberals are eager and willing participants in the destruction of the United States.
I was just re-watching one of the best and most enlightening Glenn Beck episodes:
Glenn Beck Tree of Revolution
As I've pointed out elsewhere, I'm just amazed how William Ayers' vision for America is Barack Obama's vision, and it is happening: FEMA camps, DHS accumulating 1.6 billion rounds (enough for a century of hot war), controlling people through welfare and government-dominated healthcare, deliberately spiking energy costs, Cloward and Piven strategy to collapse the system under new overwhelmning debt, using panic of a crisis to hide radical restructuring of government.
William Ayers' vision of destroying America...
...mirrors perfectly the America Obama is creating:
With FEMA camps that can house 50 million political prisoners. And DHS officials trained to fire on unarmed civilians.
...what Obama had envisioned in 2008, he has set in place.
This happened two months ago. I just saw this again and it still pisses me off.
A crowd of cowards harass one man, a decorated war hero. Who has risked his life for decades so they have the ability to shit on the freedom that he won for them. The CUNY university faculty complained that Petraeus was being paid a large salary to come and teach there. So Petraeus rejected what was to be paid to him, and accepted only one dollar.
More treason on the part of the liberals in Obama's administration, undermining laws enforcing border security and deportation of illegals, by stacking DHS with far-left/progressive bureaucrat lawyers dedicated to undermining the laws they are hypocritically employed to enforce.
Even after Obama leaves office, even if a Republican wins in 2016, these radical lawyers cannot easily be dislodged, if at all.
PJ Media columnist J. Christian Adams appeared on The Kelly File on Fox News on Friday to talk about his recent article detailing how the Department of Homeland Security has recently hired activist immigration attorneys who worked for pro-amnesty, pro-asylum, and open borders groups in the past.
Now, sources inside DHS have provided PJ Media with the employment history and pro-amnesty backgrounds of the newly hired lawyers who will be enforcing federal immigration laws.
The ideological histories of these new DHS lawyers undermine confidence that the federal government will vigorously enforce federal laws, notwithstanding any congressional “mandates” to do so.
These lawyers were hired through unconventional means by former DHS chief counsel for Citizen and Immigration Services Stephen Legomsky. Sources at DHS report that when Legomsky was hired by Secretary Janet Napalitano’s Department, he was not even an active member of any bar association. After resigning in October 2013, Legomsky is now a professor of law at Washington University. His scholarship is most notable for its hostility toward barriers to entry for foreigners coming to the United States.
What are you doing for Valentine’s Day? Bleeding-heart progressives across the country are raising money for “an evening of music, song and sharing love for recently released People’s Lawyer Lynne Stewart.” Warm fuzzies for one of the world’s most notorious terrorist helpers? I can’t think of a more stomach-turning way to mark the holiday.
Thanks to the Obama administration, Stewart walked out of prison on New Year’s Eve. She is reportedly suffering stage-four breast cancer. Now she’s passing the plate among her supporters, asking them to foot the bill for her health-insurance deductibles and co-pays, as well as for a “special diet, vitamins and other healing methods.” What, no Obamacare?
Has Stewart shown exceptional remorse or good behavior to warrant such compassion? Don’t forget: Both the Bureau of Prisons and a federal judge previously had denied Stewart’s petition for a compassionate release, but a U.S. attorney intervened. This preferential treatment is extraordinary: Since 1992, the annual average number of prisoners who receive compassionate release has been less than two dozen.
Let me remind you of what she did, who benefited, who died, and how she has acted since being caught red-handed and freed.
Stewart was convicted in 2005 of helping terrorist Omar Abdel Rahman — the murderous Blind Sheik — smuggle coded messages of Islamic violence to outside followers in violation of an explicit pledge to abide by her client’s court-ordered isolation. Rahman, Stewart’s “political client,” had called on Muslims to “destroy” the West, “burn their companies, eliminate their interests, sink their ships, shoot down their planes, kill them on the sea, air or land.” He issued bloody fatwas against U.S. “infidels” that inspired the 1993 WTC bombing, the 1997 massacre of Western tourists in Luxor, Egypt, and the 9/11 attacks.
Stewart ignored a judge’s communications ban, transmitting Rahman’s edicts of violence to fellow jihadist Rifa’l Ahman Tara in Egypt. She smuggled out a coded order to his followers lifting a ceasefire between his terrorist group and the Egyptian government. She personally delivered one of the messages to a Reuters reporter.
Far from the innocent grandma her supporters continue to portray her as, Stewart was caught on video making distracting “covering noises” — tapping the table, shaking a water jar — for the Blind Sheik’s translator to evade the communications ban.
After receiving a measly initial sentence of 28 months for abetting terrorism, the disbarred civil-rights attorney was re-sentenced to ten years in jail. A federal panel of judges felt the need to spotlight her smugness. “From the moment she committed the first act for which she was convicted, through her trial, sentencing and appeals,” Judge Robert Sack of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals wrote, “Stewart has persisted in exhibiting what seems to be a stark inability to understand the seriousness of her crimes.”
Stewart failed to understand “the breadth and depth of the danger in which” her crimes had “placed the lives and safety of unknown innocents, and the extent to which they constituted an abuse of her trust and privilege as a member of the bar,” the panel concluded.
This jihad-coddling grandmother remains defiant. She called 9/11 an “armed struggle.” Upon her initial sentencing, she boasted that she could serve the term “standing on her head.” After she was convicted of aiding and abetting Rahman, she told an interviewer she “would do it again.” She has repeatedly told liberal sycophantic journalists that she would not have done anything differently.
After a jubilant return to New York City upon her release last month, Stewart thanked Louis Farrakhan, bragged about her (convicted cop-killer) Mumia Abu Jamal pin, condemned the government that had just released her, and vowed to continue her radical advocacy of “political prisoners.” No regrets, no remorse, no repentance.
Stewart doesn’t need to solicit President Obama and the White House for a Valentine’s Day donation. They delivered her the biggest “LUV YA” candy heart a terror enabler could ask for: her release papers sealed with a kiss. XOXO.
So not only is this an example of one literally treasonous liberal who ran messages for Al Qaida, and who unrepentantly has said she would do it again, not only did the Obama administration give her release when she deserves to die in jail, but the apparent mainstream of liberal/progressives express their support for Lynn Stewart and celebrate her release.
Apparently for liberal progressives, the highest form of patriotism is behaving like Soviet spies.
