Another was a marine named Andrew Tahmooressi in 2014, who made a wrong turn in San Diego, and accidentally ended up on the Mexican side of the border. He was moving at the time, and had all his posessions in the car, including some firearms he owned, for which the Mexicans arrested him and put him in prison, where he stayed for a year or so, for no apparent reason. It is common for Mexicans in their prison system to arrest Americans, and then extort a ransom from the family to secure their release.
Particularly disgusting because this guy is a U.S. marine. In the year or so he was imprisoned, then-president Obama never communicated with the Mexican government, in any attempt to secure his release, nothing. (This was one of two U.S. marined who were wrongfully imprisoned during Obama's presidency, he did nothing to help either, even as he attended the funerals of criminal thugs and gave presidential amnesty and/or accolades for violent marxist revolutionaries.)
Finally, Tahmooressi was very ill in prison and almost died, and I think the Mexicans involved only set him free to avoid the wrath of the U.S. if he possibly died in prison.
When Trump saw this in the news, he contacted Tahmooressee and in a letter thanked him for his military service, honored him, and rewarded him for his troubles with a check for $25,000.
